Research position by the TRAITS project – Biological Oceanography Group (BO, CIM)

The Biological Oceanography group of the Marine Research Centre of the University of Vigo (CIM-UVigo) offers a position for research staff by the TRAITS project (An approach to study of microbial ecology based on traits and guilds), funded by the State Research Agency (State Program for the Generation of Knowledge and Challenges of the society, PID2019-110011 RB- C33).

Job description:

  • Duration: 3 months, renewable (hiring forecast in March 2021). Full time.
  • Place of work: research laboratory of the Biological Oceanography Group at the Vigo Campus, Lagoas, Marcosende. Spain
  • Approximate salary: € 1500 gross

Requirements:

  • Applicants must meet, at the end of the application submission period, the following requirements:
  • Be at least eighteen years old and not reach the established age, in general, for retirement.
  • Have functional capacity to perform the tasks of the requested profile.
  • Not to be separated, by means of a disciplinary file, from the service of any of the Public Administrations, nor to be disqualified from the performance of public functions.
  • Doctorate in the scientific-technological field.
  • Experience (at least 3 years) in bioinformatic analysis of data from massive sequencing techniques (HTS) applied to marine microorganisms.
  • Demonstrable experience in the writing and publication of scientific articles in the field of microbial marine ecology that include data from HTS.
  • Demonstrable experience in the design and performance of experiments and samplings in oceanographic campaigns of microbial marine communities
  • Demonstrable experience in the sampling, extraction and handling of nucleic acids (DNA / RNA) in the laboratory.
  • Demonstrable experience with a programming language for the bioinformatics analysis of data from HTS (Unix, R)
  • Oral and writing communication in English.

Evaluation criteria:

  • Number and quality of scientific articles published
  • Level of experience in handling nucleic acids (DNA / RNA) in the laboratory
  • Level of experience in bioinformatic analysis of HTS data from microbial marine communities
  • Level of experience in the design and performance of experiments and sampling of microbial marine communities in oceanographic campaigns
  • Knowledge of the coastal ecosystem of the junction of the Iberian Peninsula
  • Level of English (oral interview option)
  • Previous experience in tasks similar to those described for the project
