I Annual Assembly CIMentos
On November 10, 2023, the I Annual Assembly CIMentos took place on the University of Vigo Campus. This scientific event, organized by the Marine Research Center (CIM) of the University of Vigo, aimed to bring together all the center’s research staff in a dedicated space for presenting work, exchanging knowledge, and establishing collaborations.
During the meeting, attended by more than a hundred researchers from the center, scientific advances were shared through ten oral presentations and 32 posters on topics related to aquaculture and the sustainable exploitation of resources, biodiversity and ecosystem services, global change and pollution, renewable energies and new resources, and the integrated management of coastal areas.
One of the main focuses of this event was to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and cutting-edge research, encouraging interaction between different disciplines to address marine environment challenges from multiple perspectives, offering innovative solutions, and discussing the future of marine science and our oceans.
This first scientific gathering was presented as a unique opportunity to establish valuable connections with colleagues, taking advantage of a setting conducive to networking.
II Asemblea Anual CIMentos
On October 24, 2024, the II Annual Assembly CIMentos was held at the CITEXVI building on the University of Vigo Campus. The meeting brought together CIM researchers to share knowledge and explore new collaboration opportunities. This year’s edition featured the participation of some members of the CIM External Advisory Committee (CAE) and included the presentation of the CIM Award to Dr. Maria Dornelas. This activity is part of the actions of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
CIM Award
The CIM Award is a recognition aimed at highlighting excellence in marine research at an international level. In its inaugural edition, the award was presented to Dr. Maria Dornelas, a biology researcher from the University of St. Andrews (United Kingdom), who delivered the opening lecture at the II Assembly CIMentos.
The CIM Award was established to honor researchers whose work is making a significant impact in the field of marine science. In this regard, Maria Dornelas was selected as the first recipient in recognition of her pioneering contributions to the study of biodiversity, particularly concerning the dynamics of coral reefs and global biodiversity patterns in the Anthropocene. Her research has not only challenged established concepts but also provided crucial new perspectives for the conservation and management of marine ecosystems.
