The Coastal Ecology Research Group of the Marine Research Center of the University of Vifo is looking for a PhD candidate to develop a PhD thesis in the topic of Cryobiology applied to the marine environment, in the Functional Preservation Service from the ECIMAT (University of Vigo), and under the direction of Dr. Estefania Paredes and Prof. Jesus Troncoso.

The direction team has experience in theoric and applied cryobiology and cryopreservation of marine invertebrate cells like sea urchin or mussel and their research line is considered a reference worldwide (Paredes 2015, Paredes and Mazur 2016, Heres et al. 2019).
The PhD topic is “Vitrification and ultra-fast laser warming of oocytes and embryos of model marine organisms”. We are looking for someone with interest in working with cryopreservation, laser warming, TEM and SEM analysis and detection of post-cryopreservation damage and apoptotic processes in marine invertebrates. This PhD would advance in the development of a new technique and the results will have great repercussions in the advancement of the research field.
We will support the applications for any predoc funding source, national and international. PhD program will be encased in International Excellence program Campus “DoMar” from 1-12 sept- 2019. Candidate is expected to apply for predoc funding at University, local and state level.
Requisites
- Degree in Biology, Marine Biology or Oceanography.
- Good English.
- Competitive qualifications at degree and/or master level.
- It will also be taken into account prior experience in the field, meetings and papers published.
