The Marine turtle research center: a new facility of SZN

The Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn of Naples, established in 1872, is among the oldest and top research institutions in the world in the fields of marine biology and ecology. The Sea Turtle Recovery Centre started its research activities in 1983, in response to the growing number of specimens of sea turtles recovered stranded or debilitated or injured because of the interaction with human activities at sea. It was created with the aim of providing a scientific basis for the development of programs and Effective management strategies for these emblematic animals.

Fulvio Maffuci has been working in this institution since 2002 with the aim of understanding the distribution of the loggerhead turtle on the west coast of the Mediterranean and the connectivity between its stocks, the main aspects related to the biology and ecology of this species and the factors that threaten it.
