The conference of Ana Bernabeu, director of the Universidade de Vigo Research Area and researcher of the Marine and Environmental Geology Group (CIM-UVigo), entitled Open Science: a new way of conceiving research work and disseminating results, has been postponed until new announcement. The conference date will be announced once the competent authorities open the normal activities and events of the Marine Research Center.
In 2017, UVIGO obtained the European seal of Human Resources in Research (HRS4R) which recognizes institutions that are making progress in aligning their human resources policies with the 40 principles of the European Charter & Code of Conduct. These include ethical aspects such as good research practices and the dissemination and exploitation of results.
In this regard, the EU has established the importance of so-called Open Science, defining it as a basic scientific policy to be implemented in European projects. Similarly, some of the most prestigious journals require researchers to store the data used in their publications in open and accessible repositories.
We are facing a paradigm shift in how we deal with information, data and research management. But what do we mean by Open Science? In the Vice-Rector’s Office for Research, Ana is responsible for the implementation of the HRS4R seal at the University of Vigo and for promoting the associated action plan promoting, among others, Open Science at Universidade de Vigo. In this conference, Ana Bernabeu will introduce the basic concepts of Open Science, defining the four basic pillars and will establish the first steps to implement this new policy in our University: where we are and where we want to go.
