The Rector of the University of Vigo, Manuel Reigosa Roger, announced this achievement in his annual report to the Claustro, revealing that the university secured over 14 million euros in international fundraising during the year. Approximately 13 million euros are attributed to international research projects, and 1.5 million euros are allocated to international educational projects.
The remarkable figures achieved stem from the Vigo academic institution deliberate involvement in numerous programs. According to Belén Rubio, the Vice-Rector for Research, Transfer, and Innovation, “It was the year with the most proposals submitted and, at the same time, the year we saw the most success.” This highlights our focused approach, resulting in a significant uptick in both proposal submissions and successful outcomes.
Out of the 13 million euros obtained by the University of Vigo, the CIM (Multidisciplinary Research Center) secured over 1.4 million euros in international projects in 2023. Three of these projects are under Horizon Europe, and four belong to other calls (two POCTEP, one Atlantic Area, and one Life). It is noteworthy that the CIM doubled its international fundraising in 2023 compared to the previous year, enhancing the center’s position as a reference in the European context. Additionally, the center maintained the active involvement of its research staff in 15 international projects (12 Horizon Europe and 3 from other calls) in the past year, ensuring a significant presence in various international networks.
