The Future Oceans Lab and ERENEA research groups organize the Interdisciplinary Fisheries Seminars programme under the support of ECOBAS and CAMPUS DO MAR. This seminars will allow different research groups working on fisheries to have a fruitful exchange in order to learn from others how common question are being solved from diverse perspectives such as economics, ecology and management. All students and researchers interested in the field are welcomed, both from the University and abroad, are encouraged to participate and present their work.
This seminar series will take place in the Faculty of Economics once a month. Dates, time and location will be announced in advance by different platforms such as our mailing list and CAMPUS DO MAR, ECOBAS and FOL webs. Presentations will last 30 minutes with 15-20 minutes for discussion. Speakers are encouraged to communicate research findings considering a diverse audience, and attendants are encouraged to actively participate.
The first conference will take place on November 16th, at 14:30, at Seminar07 at Economics Faculty of University of Vigo. The first speaker, Eduardo Sánchez, from the University of Alicante (Spain), will present the conference “A comparison between stock assessment methods and assessment of management scenarios: a practical study case for European hake in GSA’s 12-16”.
Eduardo will present the results of his Master thesis, directed by José Mª da Rocha, professor at the University of Vigo. “His work deals with the different ways to improve the assessment of fish stocks status to mitigate the negative impacts over marine ecosystems and communities due to the increasing pollution levels, global warming and over urbanization of coastal areas”.
