Adaptation and speciation in Littorina

9th of October, Roger Butlin, Professor of Evolutionary Biology at the University of Sheffield and Guest Professor of the University of Gothenburg, presented the conference titled “Adaptation and speciation in Littorina“.

Roger Butlin work with Emilio Rolan and Juan Galindo from UVigo Populations Genetics Team, under the project BARRIERS,  funded by an ERC Advanced Grant (European Research Council), in order to study speciation in the marine snail Littorina saxatilis. Project BARRIERS relies on EMBRC (European Marine Biological Resource Centre) facilities in Vigo (ECIMAT; EMBRC-Spain) and Roscoff (Station Biologique Roscoff; EMBRC-France) for an important part of its field and experimental work.

During his conference, Professor Butlin described the analyses of contact zones between divergent ecotypes of L. saxatilis, discussing how cline analysis can reveal the arrangement of loci under selection, which is important for the evolution of further reproductive isolation.
