1st Annual CIMentos Assembly

On November 10, 2023, the 1st Annual CIMentos Assembly took place at the University of Vigo Campus, a scientific event organized by the Marine Research Center (CIM) of the University of Vigo with the aim of bringing together all the Center’s research staff in a dedicated space for the presentation of research work, the exchange of knowledge, and the establishment of collaborations.

During the meeting, which brought together more than one hundred researchers from the Center, scientific advances were shared through around ten oral presentations and 32 posters addressing topics related to aquaculture and the sustainable exploitation of resources, biodiversity and ecosystem services, global change and pollution, renewable energy and new resources, and integrated coastal zone management.

One of the main focuses of this meeting was to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and cutting-edge research, seeking to foster interaction among different disciplines in order to address marine environmental challenges from multiple perspectives, provide innovative solutions, and discuss the future of marine science and our oceans.

This first scientific meeting was presented as a unique opportunity to establish valuable connections with colleagues, taking advantage of an environment conducive to networking.

2nd Annual CIMentos Assembly

On October 24, 2024, the II Annual CIMentos Assembly was held in the CITEXVI building of the University Campus of Vigo. At the meeting, we brought together the CIM research staff to share knowledge and seek new opportunities for collaboration. This new edition was attended by some of the members of the CIM External Advisory Committee (CAE) and we will present the CIM Award to Dr. Maria Dornelas. This activity is part of the actions of the Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development.

CIM Award

The CIM Award is a distinction aimed at recognizing excellence in marine research at the international level. In its first edition, the award was presented to Dr. Maria Dornelas, a biologist from the University of St Andrews (United Kingdom), who delivered the keynote lecture at the 2nd CIMentos Assembly.

The CIM Award was established with the aim of recognizing researchers whose work is having a significant impact in the field of marine science. In this regard, Maria Dornelas was selected as the first recipient in recognition of her pioneering contributions to the study of biodiversity, particularly in relation to coral reef dynamics and global biodiversity patterns in the Anthropocene.
Her research has not only challenged established concepts, but has also provided crucial new perspectives for the conservation and management of marine ecosystems.

3rd Annual CIMentos Assembly

On Tuesday, October 28, the Marine Research Center (CIM) of the University of Vigo will hold the 3rd Annual CIMentos Assembly, the Center’s main internal meeting that brings together its scientific community to share progress, challenges, and perspectives on the marine research carried out at CIM.
The event will serve as a space for exchange and reflection among the Center’s staff, highlighting the achievements of the past year and the priority lines of work looking ahead to the future.

CIMentos is thus consolidating itself as a highly relevant forum for strengthening the Center’s internal cohesion, promoting interdisciplinarity, and fostering a shared vision of marine science at the service of society and ocean sustainability.

CIM Award 2025

The CIM Award is a distinction aimed at highlighting excellence in marine research at the international level. In its second edition, the award has been granted to Enric Gisbert, head of the Aquaculture Program at IRTA in La Ràpita and a world reference in the field of aquaculture, who will deliver the keynote lecture at the 3rd CIMentos Assembly.
His work stands out for its contribution to the development of more sustainable and responsible aquaculture, focusing on fish nutrition, the formulation of functional diets, and the improvement of animal welfare and quality. His career exemplifies a strong commitment to scientific innovation and knowledge transfer toward a sector that is key to the future of the oceans.
