Improvement of aquaculture to produce safer, healthier, and more sustainable food, focusing on blue biotechnology, circular economy, efficient feeding, genetic improvement, and animal welfare to design environmentally respectful aquaculture production models.

Sustainable fisheries and shellfish management in coastal systems

Research and scientific support for fisheries and shellfish management, integrating biodiversity, productivity, and coastal dynamics. Assessment of natural banks and habitat quality, development of ecosystem models and adaptive management tools in response to climate change, promoting co-management processes and knowledge transfer with the marine productive sector (fishermen’s guilds, producer associations such as mussel raft farmers, etc.).

Marine renewable energies and energy transition

Avaliación do potencial e da sostibilidade das enerxías mariñas renovables mediante a caracterización físico-climática do sistema océano-atmosfera e a modelización do recurso enerxético mariño e da súa variabilidade. Integración de estudos de impacto ambiental e ferramentas de planificación espacial mariña para apoiar unha transición enerxética compatible coa conservación do medio mariño.

Eco-innovation in resilient port infrastructures

Development of eco-innovative solutions for ports and other coastal infrastructures that reduce environmental impacts and improve adaptation to climate change, combining monitoring and ecological assessment with the design of hybrid nature–engineering infrastructures and coastal risk modelling.
