UVigo showcases its R&D&I potential at BioSpain, one of Europe’s largest biotechnology events

A UVigo amosa o seu potencial en I+D+i en BioSpain, un dos maiores eventos de biotecnoloxía en Europa

CIM’s PhystoFish group presented the results of the MARINNONET project

The University of Vigo is taking part this week in BioSpain as part of the Galician delegation. The event, which began yesterday, Tuesday, is one of the largest biotechnology events organised by a national biotechnology industry association in Europe and one of the largest worldwide in terms of the number of one-to-one meetings and participating companies.

UVigo is part of the Xunta de Galicia–GAIN delegation, alongside other stakeholders from the Galician Innovation System, including the three universities, biomedical foundations, Sergas, the Health Cluster and private companies. Galicia is strongly committed to research and technology transfer and has developed a  Biotechnology Strategy in which UVigo plays a significant role.

UVigo’s participation in the event aims to showcase its research results and capabilities in the field of biotechnology and, in particular, highlight the expertise of CIM, atlanTTic, CINBIO and Cintecx, as well as the Institute of Agroecology and Food. The event also provides an opportunity to establish contacts and build synergies with public and private organisations with a view to future collaborations and joint projects.

UVigo was represented at BioSpain by Elena Gil and Uxía Vázquez, from the R&D Office. In addition, the PhystoFish group had the opportunity to present the results of the MARINNONET project in a short talk entitled Driving Blue Biotechnology through a Transnational European Network. The group’s principal investigator, José Luis Soengas, Professor Marta Conde and Project Manager Carlota Freiría also attended the event.

CIM holds the CIGUS recognition awarded by the Xunta de Galicia, which acknowledges the quality and impact of its research, and its activities are co-funded by the European Union through the ERDF 2021–2027 programme.
