This Monday, science leaves laboratories and classrooms behind to settle into Vigo’s bars with a new edition of Pint of Science, the international science outreach festival that, in Vigo, will run until Wednesday at the venues De Catro a Catro and El Castro. Researchers from the University of Vigo will play a leading role in a programme featuring 14 free talks on topics such as health, the environment, artificial intelligence, chemistry, linguistics and technology.
Researchers from centres such as atlanTTic, CINBIO, Cintecx, CIM and the iLingua research institute will take part, presenting their work to the public in a relaxed and approachable format aimed at encouraging direct dialogue between the scientific community and society. Among them will be CIM researcher Marta Costas, who will bring her talk “From the Cosmos to the Human Body: Isotopic Footprints” to El Castro bar on Wednesday, May 20. Sessions will take place every day from 7:30 p.m.
Simultaneous celebration in 114 cities and towns across the country
Over these three days, the free science-in-bars festival Pint of Science Spain will bring together a total of 1,300 researchers in 114 cities and towns. With more than a thousand events spread across dozens of locations, this year the festival is strengthening its presence in less populated areas, bringing science to bars in 29 rural regions participating for the first time through outreach talks, monologues and experiments presented in simple language and in a welcoming, participatory atmosphere. After each session, attendees will be able to interact directly with scientists, fostering open and accessible dialogue to answer their questions and curiosity about science.
CIM holds the CIGUS recognition awarded by the Xunta de Galicia, which certifies the quality and impact of its research, and its activity is co-funded by the European Union through the FEDER 21-27 Programme.
