UVigo strengthens its commitment to innovation applied to the maritime-industrial sector at Navalia 2026

A UVigo reforza en Navalia 2026 a súa aposta pola innovación aplicada ao sector marítimo-industrial

The Marine Research Centre (CIM) took part in this new edition of the trade fair

The University of Vigo is participating from this Tuesday until Thursday in Navalia 2026, the International Shipbuilding Industry Fair, which brings together companies, institutions and professionals linked to the maritime and naval sectors from around the world at the Vigo Exhibition Centre. UVigo has a dedicated space focused on knowledge transfer, sustainable technology and collaboration with industry, where it showcases different scientific and technological capabilities aimed at addressing the sector’s current challenges.

Through the participation of the research centres atlanTTic, CIM and CINTECX, and with the support of the R&D Office, UVigo is presenting examples of applied research and collaborative projects that connect directly with industry needs, especially in areas related to digital transformation, sustainability and energy efficiency.

Technological solutions for a more competitive and sustainable shipbuilding industry

UVigo’s stand brings together initiatives focused on the development of advanced technologies capable of driving the modernization of the maritime-industrial sector. These include applications based on artificial intelligence, data analysis, advanced connectivity, intelligent monitoring systems and digital tools aimed at process optimization and safety.

In this context, the Marine Research Centre (CIM) is presenting at Navalia its potential as a leading scientific and technological partner for the naval and maritime sectors. The centre’s capabilities include unique infrastructures such as the CIM UVigo oceanographic vessel, the first professional vessel built in Spain with plug-in hybrid propulsion; fluid dynamics modelling and analysis of its impact on maritime infrastructures; the design, efficiency and durability of offshore wind farms; coastal management and restoration through nature-based solutions; and the development of innovative tools for monitoring, management and protection against marine pollution.

As part of its participation, CIM will host on Wednesday the 20th a live demonstration of an underwater remote operation system, featuring a real-time connection via a 5G network to an unmanned underwater vehicle (ROV) operating at sea. This demonstration will be linked to the centre’s experimental marine research platform located in the Aldán estuary.

An international showcase for the naval ecosystem

Navalia once again consolidates its position as one of Europe’s leading events in the naval and maritime sectors, bringing together hundreds of exhibitors and international delegations. The fair turns Vigo into a strategic meeting point for generating partnerships, business opportunities and international cooperation projects.

In this context, the presence of the University of Vigo aims to strengthen the connection between research and industry, promoting knowledge transfer and contributing to the development of a more innovative, competitive and sustainable naval sector.

CIM holds the CIGUS recognition granted by the Xunta de Galicia, which certifies the quality and impact of its research, and its activity is co-financed by the European Union through the FEDER 21-27 Programme.
