‘Misterio no Pazo’ returns with a performance open to the general public on April 9 in Castrelos

Volve 'Misterio no Pazo' cunha función aberta ao público xeral o 9 de abril en Castrelos

The activity will feature two consecutive performances at 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM, including CIM research staff as part of the cast conducting real experiments adapted for young audiences

As part of the World Theatre Day celebrations, UVigo is launching an extra performance of Misterio no Pazo, a piece of immersive and science-based theatre paying tribute to Agatha Christie in collaboration with the Concello de Vigo. On this occasion, the performance will take place on April 9, aimed at both the UVigo university community and the general public, with the goal of maximizing the initiative’s reach and making the most of the previously developed artistic, technical, and scientific work.

At the presentation of the initiative, attended by representatives from the University and the Concello, the Vice-Rector for Communication and Institutional Relations, Mónica Valderrama, highlighted the success of the first performances, aimed at educational centers in Vigo. “What we want now is to open it to a broader audience with a family-friendly performance,” she said, while emphasizing the suitability of the venue to the literary universe of the play.

In this regard, the mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero, framed the activity within the centenary of the donation of the Castrelos palace to the people of Vigo for use as a museum. “This space became the democratic property of the city of Vigo a hundred years ago,” recalled the mayor, who also praised the “brilliance” of choosing this venue to stage an adaptation of an Agatha Christie work. “The idea is brilliant,” he reiterated.

Two consecutive performances with prior reservation

The proposal continues the activities already held on March 4 and 5, aimed at secondary school students in Vigo. Set in the Quiñones de León Museum, there will be two consecutive performances: the first at 5:30 PM and the second at 6:30 PM, with a maximum of 50 people per session. Access is by prior reservation through a form available on the Museos Educa platform, and participation is free until capacity is reached.

Rediscovering Agatha Christie

The activity presents an adaptation of Agatha Christie’s The Body in the Library, in the form of immersive theatre with scientific-educational content. The proposal combines theatrical action and scientific challenges, in which the audience actively participates to solve a mystery.

The Quiñones de León Municipal Museum will serve as the stage for a theatrical piece in which the participating audience plays a leading role. Led by Mónica Camaño, who will play Miss Marple, the iconic character created by Agatha Christie, attendees will carry out various challenges and experiments to discover who murdered the protagonist of the play, Ruby Keene, played by Adriana Santos Muñoz.

Researchers Tino Quintela, Guillermo Blanco, and André Vidal will assume the roles of the Marquis of Quiñones de León, Mark Gaskell, and Raymond Starr, respectively; while Genetics Professor Paloma Morán and predoctoral researcher Nerea Cazás will portray Drs. Morán and Cazás. In addition, UCC+i technicians and Víctor Martínez Mariño will serve as support staff. The cast is completed by the voice-over of Cristina Collazo (Josie), Zé Paredes (Basil Blake), and Manu Paino (Gastón). The soundscape is by Marcos Paino.

This action is part of the annual Ciencia de Ida y Vuelta activity plan, in collaboration with the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology – Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities, and the Quiñones de León Municipal Museum – Concello de Vigo.

CIM has received the CIGUS recognition from the Xunta de Galicia, which certifies the quality and impact of its research, and its activities are co-financed by the European Union through the FEDER Program 21-27.
