G-NIGHT. Galician Night of Researchers

Researchers from the CIM will once again take part in the major scientific fair of G-Night (Galician Night of Researchers), which will be held from 17:00 to 21:00 at the Redeiras building in Vigo. Attendees will find a wide range of free activities designed to bring them closer to different fields of science.
Specifically, CIM researchers will offer activities such as:

Green Blindness
Family audience | Outside Redeiras
Análise de Concas Sedimentarias (XM3) Group – CIM

Plants play a fundamental role in ecosystems and provide human beings with numerous benefits, yet they remain little-known organisms. This phenomenon has been termed “plant blindness.”
In this activity, you will enjoy games and challenges to test your knowledge about plants, explore your preconceptions, and discover their various uses and benefits.

The Little Animals of Our Beaches and Their DNA
Family audience | First floor
Evolutionary Genetics and Biodiversity Conservation Group (XB2) – CIM
Would you like to discover the molluscs, echinoderms, and crustaceans that inhabit our rías? At this stand, you will have the opportunity to see them, touch them, and even hold them in your own hands. Do you dare to take part?

Get to Know Your River: The Salmon Game
Family audience | First floor
Evolutionary Genetics and Biodiversity Conservation Group (XB2) – CIM
A board game similar to Snakes and Ladders, in which players take on the role of a salmon that must swim upstream from the river mouth to its headwaters. Along the way, they must avoid barriers and predators, make strategic use of engineers to hinder other players, and rely on environmentalists to remove obstacles—aiming to be the first to reach the source and win the game.

LivingSoiLL. From Waste to Resources: Reviving the Soil with Earthworms
Family audience | Second floor (Room 2)
Animal Ecology Group (GEA) – CIM
A workshop to discover how to make use of different organic waste materials and earthworms to restore soil life. You will be able to plant your own seed and create a mini vermireactor.

The Journey of Microplastics from the Toilet to the Sea
Family audience | Third floor
Animal Ecology Group (GEA) – CIM
What happens to a wet wipe and other waste when you flush it down the toilet?
In this interactive journey, we will trace the path of plastics from the home to a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), see how they are retained (or not) at each stage, and discover a possible solution.

On the other hand, between 18:00 and 21:00, the activity Science in the Bar will take place. As part of this event, researcher Mauro Rivas Ferreiro, from the Evolutionary Genetics and Biodiversity Conservation Group (XB2) of the CIM, will deliver a talk entitled Exploring the Funga of Madagascar.
