The CIM shows its ability to contribute to the development of the sustainable blue economy in Denmark

He participated in the European Maritime Day organized by the European Commission. The event brought together experts and key players in the maritime sector from all over Europe

The Marine Research Centre of the University of Vigo (CIM) was one of the more than 80 entities that participated as exhibitors in the main event of the European Maritime Day 2024, organized in Svendborg (Denmark) by the European Commission. The meeting, held on 30 and 31 May, brought together experts and stakeholders from the maritime sector from across Europe to share knowledge and seek new work synergies.

The CIM was present with an information stand, presenting its current research and projects and establishing contact with other professionals and organizations in the maritime field, within the framework of the center’s commitment to the advancement of marine science and international collaboration.

European Maritime Day is held every year at the end of May in different EU countries, selected through a call for interest launched in the Council of Ministers every five years. It is the EU’s annual meeting point on maritime affairs and sustainable blue growth and offers an interactive experience with a wide range of topics related to the blue economy and the marine environment, with thematic sessions, workshops and presentations by experts.

The director of the CIM, Daniel Rey, stressed that “it was an excellent opportunity to establish connections with strategic partners, make new contacts, gain visibility for our projects and meet in person those who are establishing the regulatory framework that affects the marine world at a European level”. He also added that “it was a unique occasion to promote partnerships aimed at facing the challenges and taking advantage of possible opportunities within the framework of the sustainable blue economy”.

The research activity of the CIM is co-financed by the Xunta de Galicia and the European Union through the European Funds (ERDF).
