With the aim of sharing work and generating new synergies between the groups. An award was presented at the event that will recognize leading people or institutions in marine science.
The Marine Research Center of the University of Vigo (CIM) held its 1st Annual CIMentos Assembly this Friday, which has as its main objective to bring together all its research staff in a space where they can present their work, exchange ideas and establish new collaborations. In this way, more than 100 researchers, including some of the most cited people in the world in their disciplines, shared their scientific advances and discoveries, thus deepening mutual knowledge and support among colleagues.
For the director of the CIM, Daniel Rey, “this assembly plays a fundamental role in promoting synergies and interdisciplinarity among the center’s staff. By bringing together researchers from the different areas of specialization of the CIM, doors are opened to a broader multidisciplinary collaboration, allowing complex problems to be addressed from multiple perspectives. This diversity of approaches will encourage the generation of innovative solutions and address the great challenges facing humanity more effectively from a blue perspective,” he added.
The opening ceremony of the assembly was attended, together with the director of the CIM, by the vice-chancellor for Research, Transfer and Innovation, Belén Rubio, who highlighted that “the name CIMentos is very appropriate because the research staff is the foundation on which the center pivots, and we need to solidify these foundations so that they are much more stable”. In her speech, the vice-chancellor also highlighted that “the bulk of the marine research that is carried out comes from the University and we must publicize this” and encouraged those present to increase collaborations between the different groups that work in the different disciplines related to the marine environment. Rubio also thanked the “massive presence, especially of young people, who are truly the spearhead of the CIM and will give continuity to the center so that it continues to grow and continue to be relevant and known nationally and internationally”.
Throughout the day, the CIM research staff, which is part of the CIGUS Network that integrates those centers whose research quality and impact has been accredited by the Xunta de Galicia, shared their advances in the Citexvi building through a dozen oral communications and 32 scientific panels. They addressed different aspects related to the marine research that is carried out at the center, with themes related to aquaculture and the sustainable exploitation of resources, biodiversity and ecosystem services, global change and pollution, renewable energies and new resources or integrated management of the coastal zone.
CIM Award
During the event, the director of the CIM announced the creation of the CIM Award, which will recognize the person or institution whose trajectory is a reference for research staff and whose work represents advances in the research carried out in the different areas of specialization of the CIM, both nationally and internationally.
This award aims to highlight the impact and relevance of the achievements of the winner, to make their scientific contributions visible and, in this way, motivate the center’s staff to continue advancing in building the future of the CIM under foundations supported by research capacity, youth and interdisciplinarity. The person awarded this award will hold the plenary session of next year’s assembly, where they will share their experience, knowledge and achievements with the scientific community present at the event.
