CIM consolidates its fundraising capacity with two new grants in the Spanish National Research Plan

It has secured more than 200,000 euros to launch two new research projects

The Marine Research Center of the University of Vigo is consolidating its fundraising capacity by obtaining grants for two new projects in the latest call for grants from the State Research Agency. These grants are part of the 4.5 million euros obtained by the University of Vigo to launch 43 new research projects.

 

The Vice chancellor for Research, Belén Rubio, points out that “in general all areas have increased or maintained the number of projects obtained, but highlights the consolidated ability to raise competitive funds from SUG research centers, which add up to more than half of the total funding achieved ”

 

The Vice-chancellorship  for Research highlights as one of the most relevant aspects of this call the promotion of the different research centers of the University of Vigo, where 23% of the total funds requested comes from. They had a success rate of 91%, getting approval for 21 projects out of the 23 requested, which is almost 50% of the projects awarded to the University of Vigo.

200,000 for the CIM

At the CIM, the Marine Research Center, just over 200,000 euros in funding has been secured for the launch of two new projects, one to measure the effect of solar radiation and temperature on the degradation of macroalgal biomass in sedimentary intertidal areas in port Foster in Deception Island, Antarctica, led by Professor Mariano Lastra, and another in which an estimate will be made of the effective census and inbreeding using genomic data, by Armando Caballero.
