Postdoctoral contract offer in the FOL group within an H2020 project

The Future Oceans Lab (FOL) group at CIM-UVigo is offering a 2-year researcher position. The researcher will be responsible for managing and developing the tasks of a H2020 project, FutureMARES, where the group participates as a partner in order to develop climate vulnerability assessments in marine and transitional ecosystems. The selected person will work with Elena Ojea (FOL) and the rest of the consortia from September 2020.

Description of the project and the tasks to be carried out

The FutureMARES project is a highly multidisciplinary project that aims to investigate socially and economically profitable climate adaptation actions, strategies, and solutions that preserve the biodiversity and ecosystem functions of European marine and transitional ecosystems and other climatic and ecological regions.

The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for the development of project tasks related to the design and implementation of climate vulnerability advisories, including methodological protocols, monitoring the progress of the tasks of the different partners and the delivery of results and reports.

Contract conditions:

  • Contract type: Temporary
  • Duration: 2 years full-time
  • Expected start date: September 2020.
  • Salary: 30,000 – 40,000 euros gross

Selection criteria

Requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in the field of environmental sciences, management, economics, social sciences, fisheries, marine ecology or related disciplines.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in implementing and writing environmental research projects.
  • Experience in research in marine conservation and recovery and/or fisheries.
  • Knowledge of coding and experience in R or similar programs for data analysis and visualization.
  • Have a minimum of two publications in internationally recognized scientific journals related to the topic of the position.

Other assessment criteria:

  • Experience in project management, especially in H2020 or similar projects;
  • Experience in climate change research, including impacts and adaptation;
  • Experience in qualitative approaches to environmental management, stakeholder and group analysis, preference analysis, participatory methods, etc.
  • Experience in ecological and social indicators, indices and other representations of complex problems. Experience in climate vulnerability assessments will be highly valued;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain strong relationships with academics, NGOs, political and government partners and to work effectively as part of a highly collaborative research team;
  • Proficiency in using GitHub, Shiny and other online tools for efficient research;
  • Publications in interdisciplinary journals or journals from different disciplines will be highly valued;
  • Scientific independence and ability to generate ideas autonomously;
  • Linguistic fluency in Spanish, English, French or Italian.
