Call for selection for the recruitment of temporary staff for the BLUEBIOLAB project

A selection process is being held for the recruitment of two researchers on a temporary basis as research staff for the BLUEBIOLAB project, a project co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund FEDER within the framework of the Interreg V A Spain-Portugal (POCTEP) 2014-2020 program, with the aim of incorporating researchers who will join the research groups participating in the project to develop their research in the three key lines of the project:

  • Aquaculture and biotechnology
  • Development of new bioactive compounds and biomaterials of marine origin
  • Use of omics technologies for understanding marine biodiversity

Applicants must meet the following requirements by the application deadline:

General requirements:

  • Have reached the age of eighteen and have not reached the age established, in general, for retirement.
  • Ter capacidade funcional para o desempeño das tarefas do perfil solicitado.
  • Not be separated, through disciplinary proceedings, from the service of any of the Public Administrations, nor be disqualified from performing public functions.

Specific requirements:

Place 1:

  • Master in the scientific-technological field.
  • Experience in in vitro testing of biomaterials.

Skills:

  • Expert in cell tests.
  • Infrastructure management for in vitro tests.
  • Physical-chemical characterization of biomaterials.
  • Experience in preparing scientific publications.
  • Oral and written communication in English.

Research lines related to:

  • Obtaining biomaterials of marine origin.
  • Physico-chemical characterization of biomaterials of marine origin.
  • In vitro biocompatibility tests.

Place 2:

  • Master’s degree in the scientific-technological field.
  • Experience in nucleic acid extraction and bioinformatics analysis of HTS data

Skills:

  • Experience in the extraction and handling of nucleic acids (DNA/RNA) in the laboratory
  • Experience in bioinformatics analysis of data from mass sequencing techniques (HTS).
  • Experience with some programming language for bioinformatics analysis of sequences (Perl, Python, R or any other)
  • Oral and written communication in English.

Research lines related to:

  • Extraction and purification of RNA/DNA from marine ecosystems
  • Characterization of microbiomes and metagenomes
  • Bioinformatic analysis of marine microbial communities

Contract characteristics

The recruitment will be formalized with a temporary employment contract for an amount to be agreed. The duration of the profile 1 contract will be 9 months (forecast for recruitment in January 2021) and the profile 2 contract will be 9 months (forecast for recruitment in April 2020)
