The Biological Oceanography (GOB) research group of the Marine Research Center of the University of Vigo (CIM-UVigo), offers a research support contract under the project “Role of Phytoplankton-Bacteria Interactions in the Response of Microbial Plankton to the Entry of Allochthonous Nutrients” (ref. CTM2017-83362-R).
Contract conditions
- Full-time contract.
- Duration: 3 months (start February 1, 2020).
- Gross monthly salary of €1800.
- Work to be developed: Metagenomic analysis of partial 16 S and 18 S sequences of marine microbial plankton generated with Illumina, diversity analysis of eukaryotic and prokaryotic communities, advanced multivariate data analysis and co-occurrence network analyses.
Requirements
- Graduate in Biology, Marine Sciences or similar.
- Demonstrable experience in the tasks to be performed. Specifically required is experience in the use of bioinformatics and statistical tools for the treatment of 16 S and 18 S sequence data (FastqC, Qiime, Mothur, Uchime), for taxonomic assignment (SILVA, PR2 databases), for advanced multivariate data analysis, and for the analysis of co-occurrence networks (Cytoscape). Extensive knowledge of eukaryotic and prokaryotic marine plankton taxonomy, and a high level of English.
- It will be valued: experience in extraction techniques, determination (Qubit/ Nanodrop) and DNA amplification, preparation of genomic libraries for mass sequencing, knowledge of Matlab, additional training related to the tasks to be carried out.
Selection process
The selection of candidates will be carried out according to the following criteria:
- Academic record (25%).
- Experience directly related to the job offered (50%).
- Knowledge of English (15%) and other merits (10%).
