Predoctoral Position (FPI) in the Animal Ecology Group (GEA)

A predoctoral contract (FPI) is offered in the Animal Ecology Group (GEA) of the CIM-UVigo to develop a doctoral thesis in Evolutionary Ecology within the framework of the project “SOCIALIFE: Life-history consequences of the social environment during early life” (PGC2018-095412- B-I00 T), directed by Alberto Velando and Sen-Yeon Kim and funded by the State Program for the Promotion of Scientific and Technical Research of Excellence.

The contract will be offered in the call for proposals “Grants for pre-doctoral contracts for the training of doctors 2019“.

Project description

The thesis project is part of the study of the mechanisms responsible for phenotypic plasticity during development in animals. In this project, several field experiments will be carried out in a colony of the yellow-legged gull (Larus michahellis) examining, through an experimental framework and using new techniques, how parents, the social environment and their interaction affect phenotypic plasticity during development and the mechanisms involved.

  • Motivation and interest in working with seabirds in the field
  • Motivation and interest in learning molecular techniques
  • Knowledge in Evolutionary Ecology and Animal Behavior
  • Good level of English, oral and written
  • Academic record > 7
