On July 19, the Malacológica Conference “Malacodía” was held in the auditorium of the Faculty of Marine Sciences of the University of Vigo, in which several specialists in the field of malacology presented the guide to mollusks from Galicia and resolved doubts about the identification of specimens, the habitat, distribution and different ways of life of these organisms.
About 25 people participated in the conference, including Emilio Rolán, author with the most new species described for Science and Honorary President of the “Spanish Society of Malacology“, Ángel Guerra, researcher at the Institute of Marine Research (IIM, CSIC), Juan Trigo, a deep expert on the species of mollusks that live on the coasts of Galicia and previous responsible for the content of the website of the Spanish Society of Malacology, and Jesús Troncoso, researcher at the CIM-UVigo, professor at the Faculty of Marine Sciences and current President of the “Spanish Society of Malacology”.
According to Troncoso, “It was an informal meeting, in which the participants, very proactive, brought the conchological material they had and, at the end of the session, various aspects were discussed to resolve doubts and curiosities about various species of mollusks.” The day ended with a visit to two laboratories of the Faculty of Marine Sciences and the CIM-Uvigo, where they were able to see specimens of African cephalopods and invertebrate fauna from Antarctica.
Due to the success of this day, Jesús Troncoso assures that new editions will be held in the coming years.
