Chabahar is located in the south of Iran, in the Gulf of Oman and is the gateway to the Indian Ocean for the Persian country. A total of 8 fishing ports and three unloading centers are concentrated on just over 300 km of coastline. In addition, there are 32 fishing companies that bring together 2,400 boats of various types. Fishing in Chabahar employs more than 25,000 people directly and at least three times as many indirectly. From this port in the Gulf of Oman, 60% of the fish consumed in Iran is supplied, with tuna being the reference species.
Within the framework of the first sectoral Trade Mission of Hispanic-Iranian fishing to Galicia, organized by ADDFOOUR SYNTHESIS CORPORATION, the participants in the Trade Mission had the opportunity to assess the strength of the Galician fishing sector between June 17 and 21, making visits to canneries, fish markets and ports, processing industry, shipyards, the Atlantic Financial Club of A Coruña and various research centers, including the Marine Research Center of the University of Vigo.
The Chabahar fisheries manager, Nadiyeh Roohi, visited the ECIMAT facilities on June 20th with the aim of assessing the different possibilities for collaboration between the University of Vigo, the Tarbiat Modares University and the Chabahar Free Zone itself. During the meeting, ECIMAT and CIM-UVigo technicians explained to Ms. Roohi the different lines and research programs they are working on, the programs that anyone can access to work at the Center and the ECIMAT facilities. Likewise, the Iranian technician presented the potential of Chabahar as the main fishing port in Iran and it was agreed to exchange information for the short-term realization of joint lines of work.
