The Campus do Mar, the Marine and Environmental Geology Group (XEOMA) of CIM-UVigo, the Faculty of Marine Sciences and the Association of Oceanographers of Galicia, participate, between May 31 and June 1, in “Pontenciencia: Feira da Miniciencia”, a school research project fair open to the public.
The fair is held on the Pontevedra campus of the University of Vigo, and is composed of an exhibition space with the projects of the participants and the university community, an audiovisual projection space with a program of audiovisuals related to the world of research and science and an interactive space with activities aimed at enhancing and energizing the fair, including options suitable for each age.
The XEOMA group of the CIM-UVigo participated on May 31 with a workshop on Formation, dynamics and composition of beaches, where the children were able to learn what beaches are and how they change throughout the year, as well as the important role they play in coastal dynamics, what sediments form them and the work of researchers in this field. The speakers took advantage of the day to raise awareness about the risks and threats to which beaches are exposed as a result of climate change, anthropogenic actions on the coast or marine pollution.
On Saturday, June 1, the Association of Oceanographers and the Faculty of Marine Sciences organized an activity focused on sustainable fishing with the aim of raising awareness of the distribution of fishing grounds and fishing zones where the Spanish fleet operates and for the children to identify the minimum sizes, those species of commercial interest as well as those most fished in our Rías.
This year, the event included a new feature: the visibility of local companies, inviting companies that develop R&D&I processes within their competences to participate.
