More than 400 people participated this Saturday in the first activities of Ciencia Singular, the scientific dissemination program with which the University seeks to make society aware of the work carried out in the three unique research centers of the Vigo university: the Marine Research Center, CIM; the Biomedical Research Center, Cinbio, and the Research Center in Telecommunications Technologies, atlanTTic.
The CIM was the main protagonist of this first day. There were boat trips to learn about some of the particularities of the estuary, as well as workshops, demonstrations by some of the CIM research groups and guided tours of the main facilities of this center, the Ecimat (Toralla Marine Science Station). It was a resounding success in terms of participation, since the 200 places for the Embárcate con CIM activity were filled in record time, with more than 250 people on the waiting list. For its part, more than 200 people participated in Coñece ao CIM, an activity that did not require prior registration and through which interested people gradually approached the island of Toralla in six shifts throughout the entire Saturday.
The Cinbio will hit the streets on October 19th and 20th
Divulgando Ciencia Singular will continue with its program of activities during the months of October and November. The next singular center to host new actions will be Cinbio, which in addition to placing tents in the street to teach citizens about its work (October 19 on Príncipe Street in Vigo and October 20 on Paseo de Ourense), will also hold an open day with several talks and workshops at its facilities on the Vigo campus (October 26) and in the Polytechnic building of Ourense (October 27). On November 9 it will be the turn of atlanTTic, which will carry out practical and pedagogical demonstrations on the functioning of new communication technologies, such as biometric recognition (faces, emotions, etc.) through video images, the future generation of mobile telephony or 5G…
All activities of the Disseminating Unique Science program are free of charge and open to all types of public. Interested parties can consult the planned program on the website www.cienciasingular.org and register for the events that interest them most. This program is financed by the General Secretariat of Universities of the Ministry of Culture, Education and University Planning of the Xunta de Galicia through the Aid Program for the accreditation, structuring and improvement of unique research centers and consolidated strategic groups of the University System of Galicia co-financed with FEDER funds, within the framework of the Feder Galicia 2014-2020 operational program.
