Specialists from all over Spain are participating on October 24 and 25 in the course Innovation and sustainability in the aquaculture sector: good practices, new technologies and eco-efficiency that is being held at the Toralla Marine Science Station (Ecimat). The activity, focused on improving the quality of employment for participants, is co-organized by the Marine Research Center of the University of Vigo, the Campus do Mar and Ariema Energía y Medioambiente SL.
The ten-hour training course takes place in the afternoon to facilitate attendance, as it is primarily aimed at aquaculture personnel interested in new technologies and sustainable businesses. A total of 35 people are participating, 30 professionals from the sector and five specialists from the Toralla Marine Science Station. This free action is part of the Semilla project, an initiative co-financed by the European Social Fund and the Empleaverde Program that seeks to instill in participants new knowledge, a more sustainable awareness, techniques in resource management, energy efficiency, environmental conservation and eco-innovation.
A program full of innovation
The face-to-face course is accompanied by an advisory service for professionals to foster environmental awareness and new production models, promote social and environmental benefits, and also encourage entrepreneurship and new skills among experts in the aquaculture sector. It covers all phases of entrepreneurship and business creation with a different methodology of playful, visual and dynamic activities.
The different presentations on the first day addressed topics such as, for example, the positioning and priorities in R&D&I, the challenges and opportunities of the market for products, environmental issues, the principles of sustainability and environmental management tools and, finally, traceability tools and smart labeling for sustainable products. Professors from the Universitat Politècnica de València, the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas and the University of Vigo shared their knowledge of the subject with the people attending this course.
For the second day, different oral presentations are planned, from the University of Vigo among others, in which topics such as: tools for adapting to climate change, health and well-being, the minimization of waste and by-products, new technologies and good practices for energy saving and efficiency on farms, the use of therapeutic products and interaction with the environment, nutrition and new sustainable feeds as well as site selection and planning will be addressed.
Through all these presentations, the aim is to offer business training that allows improving the work skills in sustainability, efficiency and innovation of aquaculture professionals.
