The signing of the agreement for the call for the next academic year of a new edition of the Ourense Exterior mobility scholarships, financed with 24,500 euros by the two institutions and by the Social Council of the University of Vigo. The presentation of the publication Memoria 2014-2018 Campus de Ourense-Campus da Auga, which takes stock of the execution of this specialization project. The Ourense campus had an intense agenda this Tuesday in which different fruits of interinstitutional collaboration were highlighted.
Strategic collaboration with the Provincial Council of Ourense
Salustiano Mato, rector of the University of Vigo, and Manuel Baltar, president of the Provincial Council of Ourense, were in charge of signing the two agreements between the two institutions in an event held at the Marcos Valcárcel Cultural Center and in which Ernesto Pedrosa, president of the Social Council of the University of Vigo, also participated. The rector emphasized how these agreements represent “the crystallization of a strategic alliance” shared by the University and the Provincial Council. In this way, Mato wanted to take the opportunity to give “my most sincere thanks to Ourense, its provincial council and the citizens in general” for the “support and affection” received throughout the eight years he was at the helm of the academic institution. The rector said goodbye by highlighting the good state of health of the Ourense campus, from which he highlighted figures such as a 101.5% enrollment rate, and thanking the involvement of the Ourense entities in achieving this. The annual collaboration agreement, Manuel Baltar stressed, “means cooperation between entities, a commitment to the training and promotion of our campus”. The president of the provincial council also wanted to recognize “the work and effort” developed during the two terms of office of Salustiano Mato at the helm of the University of Vigo, highlighting how “he has been committed to Ourense in a forceful way throughout this time”. “All the recognition and congratulations”, said Manuel Baltar, who highlighted the joint work between the two institutions during this period.
According to the annual collaboration agreement, the Provincial Council of Ourense will contribute 220,000 euros, VAT included, to the University of Vigo for activities to be carried out throughout 2018 in the province of Ourense from the Vice-Rectorate of the Ourense Campus. The agreement covers three lines of action, such as cultural and sports activities, mobility and research. The university projection and cultural activities program includes the financing of the Alterarte Room; of the classrooms and workshops of each semester, of the cultural routes, of the university choir, of the summer courses, of the Christmas concert and of the Portuguese Near cycle. This section also contemplates promoting research on Carnival, coordinating the work prior to the re-edition of the work Ourense. Monumental Guide, the celebration of the Carlos Casares Foundation Audiovisual Course and the Didactics of Fiction and Literary Creation training course. The agreement also covers a student mobility support program for students, through which complementary grants are granted for students on the campus integrated into the Erasmus Program. Finally, the specific program to support research groups on the Ourense campus, Inou 2018, will also be financed.
Five Ourense Foreign Scholarships
This Tuesday, the collaboration agreement between the Provincial Council and the University of Vigo was also signed for the development of a new edition of the Ourense Exterior mobility scholarship program. This initiative, highlighted Ernesto Pedrosa, president of the Social Council of the University of Vigo, “moves people, moves knowledge” and is part of the philosophy that “the university is sensitive to the peculiarities of the territory it serves”, recalling the unique character of this initiative in the context of the University of Vigo. The number of grants for the 2018/2019 academic year is five. The grants will cover tuition fees at the corresponding center according to the chosen master’s degree; a grant of 600 euros for travel expenses and a grant of 2500 euros for accommodation expenses. These scholarships are aimed at students residing abroad who enrol in the 2018/2019 academic year in the face-to-face mode of the first year of studies leading to the master’s degree taught on the Ourense campus, with priority given to Ourense residents, Galicians and/or Spaniards or their descendants up to the second degree inclusive, residing abroad. The Provincial Council of Ourense contributes 10,000 euros to this initiative, the Social Council of the University of Vigo 5,500 euros and the University of Vigo up to 9,000 euros in tuition fees, excluding fees for administrative services and other concepts.
2014-2018 Report of the Water Campus
Another result of the collaboration between institutions presented this Tuesday was the publication Memoria 2014-2018 Campus de Ourense-Campus da Auga, which takes stock of the execution of the specialization project of the Ourense campus. Along with Salustiano Mato, this publication was presented by Virxilio Rodríguez, vice-rector of the Ourense campus; José Alberto Díez, secretary general of Universities of the Xunta de Galicia; Jesús Vázquez, mayor of Ourense, and Rosendo Fernández, vice-president of the Provincial Council of Ourense, in an event attended by members of the university community, such as heads of centers and the next Vice-Rector of the Ourense Campus, Esther de Blas.
The publication, highlighted by the rector, shows how “we managed to give rhythm to a dream to make it a reality”. “Thanks to the entire university community of Ourense because this is your work. We try to be animators of your capacities”, stated Salustiano Mato during the presentation. The academic manager expressed his desire that “this be the starting point of something that gives us many fruits”. For his part, Virxilio Rodríguez, indicated how this publication offers “a static photo of a process that continues, that continues to move” and stressed how with it “we consider a stage complete” in which the execution of the first action plan of this specialization project was achieved. José Alberto Díez recalled how “Ourense was the first of this new innovative and singular model” of commitment to the specialization of the campuses of the University System of Galicia and how “today it is already a reality”. For his part, Jesús Vázquez, stressed how this publication “is a perfect image of a well-prepared roadmap”, highlighting his “satisfaction at seeing how a project is being consolidated, giving results”. A satisfaction also shared by Rosendo Fernández, who emphasized the potential of water in Ourense and this specialization project.
