Next Thursday, May 3, Alicia L. Bruzos, a doctoral student at the Mobile Genomes Lab of the University of Santiago de Compostela, will present the lecture “Unraveling cancer evolution through transmissible cancers,” in which she will share the latest results of her research focused on identifying the genetic causes of cancer transmissibility.
Using transmissible cancers in cockles as a model, Alicia’s work reveals the evolution of cancer cells and how they adapt to their environment, whether within the host organism or in the external surroundings. This research opens the door to potential new alternative and therapeutic strategies for both animals and humans.
Alicia’s work is part of a study led by José Tubio and funded by a Starting Grant from the European Research Council (ERC). Her doctoral studies are financed through the Ministry of Economy, Industry, and Competitiveness (MINECO) via a predoctoral contract.
