Campus do Mar set out its roadmap for the 2018-2020 period this Friday by approving an action plan structured around six strategic axes aimed, among other aspects, at strengthening the reference research lines of the aggregation, reinforcing its doctoral program and promoting cross-border cooperation. The meeting took place in the rector’s office and was attended by the president of the Higher Council for Scientific Research, Rosa Menéndez; the director of the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, Eduardo Balguerías and the rectors of the universities of A Coruña and Vigo, Julio Abalde and Salustiano Mato.
During the meeting, the need to establish a series of strategic actions that highlight the strengths and take advantage of the opportunities derived from the activity of the Campus do Mar in recent years and associated with the aggregated institutions in Galicia was discussed: the universities of A Coruña, Santiago de Compostela and Vigo; the Higher Council for Scientific Research and the Spanish Institute of Oceanography.
With an eye on Latin America
Within this framework, a series of future strategic objectives for the aggregation have been formulated that will be materialized through different actions in the 2018-2020 period. The first of these lines is aimed at strengthening the reference research lines of the aggregation, through the creation of joint laboratories to promote research and scientific excellence, the development of theses and inter-institutional research projects, the promotion of mobility and common access to infrastructures and equipment.
The second line focuses on strengthening and internationalizing the joint doctoral program * DOMAR, through actions aimed at strengthening the program in terms of administrative support, promoting its internationalization, particularly in Latin America, and promoting the creation of double and joint doctorates, as well as the development of online and specialized training actions. In this line, special emphasis is placed on attracting foreign students, mainly from Latin America, where this program can be particularly attractive due to the absence of similar consolidated programs.
The third axis seeks to promote cross-border cooperation through the organization of seminars and joint working groups on topics of interest to the Euroregion and the participating institutions, which may result in projects, collaboration networks or other joint initiatives financed with instruments such as the Poctep, Sudoe, Atlantic Area, Femp funds…etc.
Sea Innovation Hub
Within the framework of the Marine Innovation Hub that will be created within the scope of ETEA, it is planned to involve all members of the Campus do Mar in the definition of a common transfer and entrepreneurship program, which optimizes current resources and promotes the generation of new research results with commercial application and new technology-based companies. This unique program will materialize in a Joint Transfer and Entrepreneurship Unit interconnected with other relevant entities in the field such as the Vigo Free Zone Consortium or the Galician Innovation Agency (GAIN).
New web portal
Among the agreements adopted by the Governing Council of the Campus do Mar, the creation of a joint marine outreach program was also agreed, which includes the organization of joint congresses, seminars and workshops and the design of an annual outreach activities agenda. On the other hand, a new Campus do Mar web portal will be made public, which brings together all the news from all members of the Campus do Mar, as well as communications on social networks.
