The research group of the Marine Research Center of the University of Vigo (CIM-UVigo) “Future Oceans Lab” (FOL) and ERENEA organize, with the collaboration of Campus do Mar and ECOBAS, the program “Interdisciplinary Fisheries Seminars“, an open forum on the study of fisheries consisting of a series of seminars in which different fisheries research groups and students from different Universities will meet with the aim of presenting their work to the rest of the scientific community, sharing knowledge and exchanging opinions and ideas that contribute to improving the development of their research and creating links for possible collaborations. All those interested in fisheries (economics, ecology, management, etc.) will be welcome, being invited to present their work and participate in the debates.
The conferences will be monthly and will take place at the Faculty of Economics. Each conference will last 30 minutes, followed by 15-20 minutes of debate. The date and location of each conference will be announced through our websites (FOL, Campus do Mar, ECOBAS and CIM-UVigo).
The first conference will take place on November 16, at 2:30 p.m., in Seminar 07 at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Vigo. Eduardo Sánchez, from the University of Alicante (Spain), will present the conference “A comparison between stock assessment methods and assessment of management scenarios: a practical study case for European hake in GSA´s 12-16“.
Eduardo will present the results of his master’s thesis, supervised by José Mª da Rocha, professor at the University of Vigo. During the conference, he will present the different ways to improve the assessment of the state of fish populations to mitigate the negative impacts on marine ecosystems and communities due to increasing pollution levels, global warming and excessive urbanization of coastal areas.
