On Thursday, July 6, Francisco José Santos, postdoctoral researcher at the University of Vigo and the University of Aveiro, will present the conference “Influence of climate change on offshore renewable energy” within the Café con Sal scientific conference series. The conference will take place in the ECIMAT auditorium at 11:00 a.m. and will be broadcast live by UVigoTV.
Climate change and the need to invest in renewable energy sources such as wind energy are evident. Current wind farms will be affected by climate changes, so it is essential to study and plan their location based on the forecast of changing weather conditions in order to locate them in areas with the greatest potential to obtain maximum profitability. During this conference, Fran Santos will present some of the most important aspects of wind energy and present a study on its future viability, in which data taken in-situ with data from climate models are compared, a comparison never made before.
This study, funded by The Portuguese Science Founding (FCT), is being carried out by the Environmental Physics research group (Ephyslab) of the University of Vigo, in collaboration with the Department of Physics of the University of Aveiro and the “Global Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO, NASA).
