Marine tourism, hospitality, new technologies, recycling of waste from the fishing industry, territorial planning and cosmetics underpin the six projects selected for the final phase of the Empreamar marine and maritime entrepreneurship program. This initiative is committed to the sustainable use of marine resources, in this edition in the Moaña area and, after the first phases of training and identification of sustainable business ideas, this Tuesday the program’s jury chose the six business projects that will move on to the final phase, the pre-incubation phase.
This initiative, promoted by Campus do Mar, Moaña City Council and the Ría de Vigo-A Guarda Local Action Group for the fishing sector, is aimed at local entrepreneurs, mostly unemployed, in the fishing and sea sector, providing advice, mentoring and financial and infrastructure support to stimulate the creation of new sustainable companies in the fishing sector. The jury, made up of Elena Herbello, manager of GALP7; Coral Ríos, councillor for Economic Promotion and Tourism of Moaña City Council; Cristina Quelle, coordinator of the Transfer Area of Campus do Mar; Carlos Ferro, professor at the University of Vigo specializing in entrepreneurship and business development and Jacobo García Durán, director of ViaVigo and specializing in entrepreneurship, assessed the ten projects presented, following criteria such as technical and economic viability, innovative character, sustainability or potential impact on the territory, among others.
The members of the jury highlighted the quality of the ideas presented and highly valued the effort, creativity and motivation of the people participating in the program. From now until February 2018, the projects will enjoy a workspace, tutoring for the writing of their business plans and, through the Campus do Mar International Campus of Excellence, scientific-technical advice on the lines related to their business projects, from specialist personnel from the marine R&D&I ecosystem in Galicia.
The six selected proposals
Phase four of the Empreamar program, a pre-incubation program, will host six projects selected from among the proposals of the 25 people who participated in the previous training phase. The jury selected A Galera Mariñeira, a marine and hospitality tourism initiative; Mar reutilizable, a proposal that will seek the use and second life of waste materials from fishing activities; Smart Motor, a project that will explore the use of new technologies to improve and optimize the operation of marine engines; Hostel Real, which proposes the launch of a tourist hostel in Moaña; Consultoría SIX, an initiative specializing in advice on territorial planning with the help of computer tools and Polyana Cosmética, a project to develop artisanal cosmetic products with marine ingredients.
The edition of Empreamar in Moaña follows on from a first celebration, which started in 2014 in the territory of GAC 4, in the towns of Carnota and Porto do Son. It was attended by 30 people from the area, most of them unemployed, with the aim of turning their entrepreneurial ideas into reality. The program has borne fruit, with eight companies developing their activity in different areas related to the sea.
