Next Thursday, January 19, the 7th edition of the “Coffee with Salt” scientific conference series begins, which will consist of a total of 14 presentations distributed throughout 2017. The conferences will take place in the ECIMAT auditorium on the first and third Thursday of each month (except for exceptions), between 11 and 11:30 a.m.
The objective of this conference series is to offer a meeting point between researchers, students and professionals in the marine sector in order to share knowledge, generate debates and new ideas that serve as the seed of possible collaborations. This program also aims to contribute to the dissemination of marine research carried out at the University of Vigo and in the rest of the research centers in our area. With this purpose, this new edition incorporates the video recording and the publication of all the presentations on the ECIMAT website.
The person in charge of opening this 7th edition will be Francisco Rodríguez, researcher at the Oceanographic Institute of Vigo, who will present the documentary “Mareas Rojas“, directed by Manuel E. García Branco (IIM-CSIC) and Jorge Hernández Urcera (IEO). This documentary shows the relationship between oceanographic conditions and the phytoplankton dynamics responsible for the presence of biotoxins in estuaries, as well as the role of the scientific community in researching reliable detection systems and exhaustive analysis methods that achieve the prevention or early detection of these toxic episodes. During the conference, the speaker will explain this complex oceanographic phenomenon that is increasingly relevant due to climate change, highlighting the research potential that exists in Galicia on this topic.
