The deadline for submitting abstracts for the XIX Iberian Symposium on Marine Biology Studies (XIX SIEBM) is open

The XIX Iberian Symposium on Marine Biology Studies (XIX SIEBM), organized by the Interdisciplinary Center for Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR), will take place in Porto, at the Fundación Engenheiro António de Almeida, from September 5 to 9, 2016.

The symposium will include eight plenary lectures by renowned marine biologists. The scientific program will include oral sessions and poster presentations on the five main themes historically covered by SIEBM events:

  1. Ecology, Biodiversity and Vulnerable Ecosystems
  2. Global changes, invasions and species conservation
  3. Oceanography, Modeling and Dynamics of Ecosystems
  4. Fisheries, Aquaculture and Biotechnology
  5. Ecotourism, Environmental Education and Dissemination of Science

The deadline for abstract submission is April 30, 2016. The decision on abstract acceptance will be made on May 31, 2016. The first phase of registration ends on June 15, 2016.

Students have the opportunity to compete for prizes for the best oral presentations and posters. Registration fees will be kept as low as possible to encourage participation by early-career scientists and students.

All abstracts presented during the XIX SIEBM will be given a DOI number and published in the journal Frontiers in Marine Science. The Organizing Committee has also reached an agreement with Elsevier to publish the proceedings in a special issue of the Regional journal Studies in Marine Science after a refereed review process.
