The XV National Aquaculture Congress / I Iberian Aquaculture Congress was held in Huelva between 13 and 16 November 2015. This congress was a meeting point that allowed the research carried out in Spain and Portugal in the field of aquaculture to be shared, the challenges faced by the sector to be analysed and the actions that can best contribute to overcoming them to be identified, whether from the academic, administrative or business spheres.
As in previous editions, the congress was very well received, exceeding the average number of communications received in other years. Thus, a total of 286 scientific communications were presented, complemented by 24 interventions by experts in various subjects, grouped in the following thematic sessions: food and nutrition, reproduction, diversification, eco-efficient technologies for aquaculture production, integrated multitrophic aquaculture, auxiliary algae cultivation, mollusc and fish culture technology, mollusc, crustacean and fish health, bivalve culture and its health management, genetics and genomics, immunology and proteomics, captive reproduction of Senegalese sole, improvement of gilthead sea bream and sea bass productivity, animal physiology and welfare, quality and valorization of aquaculture products, transformation and commercialization, sustainability and environment, strategic aquaculture plans in Spain and Portugal 2014-2020, priorities and financing of R&D&I in aquaculture, business development and entrepreneurship and socioeconomics. In this way, all the topics that raise the greatest interest and concern in current aquaculture were covered. In addition to these communications, two plenary lectures were given by Marisol Izquierdo and Cristina Garmendia and a visit was made to the IFAPA Agua del Pino center.
