The Economic Research Group (INVACUIC) of the Department of Business Organization and Marketing at the University of Vigo is organizing, from June 26 to July 2, the 8th edition of the university extension course “Management of Aquaculture Farms,” aimed at combining knowledge of aquaculture and business management. Students participating in the course will have the opportunity to attend 8 seminars intended to:
-Understand the threats and opportunities that the sector presents for aquaculture activity
-Identify the strengths and weaknesses of current aquaculture farms
-Identify the key elements that will determine the future of the sector
-Design appropriate competitive strategies for the sector
-Understand the process of starting an aquaculture activity
-Learn and know how to use tools for feasibility analysis of aquaculture farms
-Be able to define marketing strategies to create value in aquaculture products
-Understand the cultivation process of various species, including both fish and bivalve mollusks
-Learn everything related to the cultivation of commercial fish species in Galicia
-Operate aquaculture production management software (SmartWater)
The course includes a visit to IGAFA (Galician Institute of Aquaculture Training on the Island of Arousa) with a boat tour to learn all the details of the mussel cultivation process on rafts and demonstrations of related tasks, as well as a visit to the Spanish Institute of Oceanography – Vigo Oceanographic Center (Cabo Estai, Vigo).
Two days of the course will take place at the ECIMAT facilities, where participants will have the opportunity to take a guided tour to learn about its activities.
Fees:
Students belonging to the University of Vigo community: €22.50
University of Vigo students receiving a scholarship from the Ministry of Education or other financial aid: €15
Other students: €30
