On Wednesday, April 22, at 11:45, the artist Mingos Teixeira will give the conference “Creativity, connection between Science and Art” at ECIMAT. Mingos is a self-taught artist with a strong personal style, obsessed with color and composition, who seeks to provide, through investigative and existential approaches, new expressive and communicative paths in art. Although his work is primarily pictorial, he also produces photography, posters, illustration, and artistic design.
He is known for his dedication to bringing the world of art closer to young people through publications, articles, conferences, educational and cultural programs, etc.—an activity that has taken him to international forums on art education such as the “4th International Congress of Educating Cities” in Chicago, as the creator and coordinator of the Educational Program “Escola e Arte.”
He began his artistic career in 1980 by exhibiting at the “Francisco de Goya” Award in Madrid, and since then has carried out numerous projects and exhibitions. His work is represented in a dozen museums and in public and private collections, notably including the Thyssen Bornemisza Collection and the UNESCO Center in Porto.
Alongside his artistic activity, Mingos Teixeira has developed an extensive academic career in the field of art education and creativity.
In 1984, he created and directed the School of Technical Means for Artistic Production in his hometown, training numerous generations of children and young people, both at his Academy and through the Educational Programs Escola e Arte; Arte na Aula; and Crea, which are implemented by the City Council of Vigo in its educational centers.
In 1996, Escola e Arte was presented at the World Congress of Educating Cities under the motto “The Arts and Humanities as Agents of Social Change,” being selected as a model program to be implemented in member cities.
The editing and publication of books, articles, teaching units, etc., on art and creativity produced by Mingos were created almost out of necessity to provide broader dissemination of the courses, conferences, and educational talks he has given, both to the general public and to teachers through the Ministry of Education of the Xunta de Galicia.
Art criticism and exhibition curation is another activity directly related to his educational work, which the artist has been balancing alongside his creative practice.
