The impact of rising global temperatures, the introduction of exotic species, and the decline in water quality on native freshwater mollusk species are some of the issues addressed in the doctoral thesis being conducted by Noé Ferreira-Rodríguez under the supervision of Isabel Pardo, Professor of Ecology at the University of Vigo.
To carry out this work, the research team from the Department of Ecology and Animal Biology at the University of Vigo, with logistical support from ECIMAT, surveyed the main rivers of Galicia in spring 2014: from the Río Lérez in Pontevedra to the Eo on the border with Asturias, down the Miño from Meira to A Guarda, including the Galician stretch of the Río Sil from O Barco de Valdeorras to its confluence with the Miño at Os Peares.
