On the upcoming January 11, the seminar “Implementation of the Water Framework Directive in the Miño River Estuary: Reference Conditions and Ecological Status Assessment” will take place at CETMAR facilities in Vigo. Some of the results of the TEAM-Miño project (Transfer of Tools for the Assessment, Planning, Management, and Environmental Education in Estuaries) will be presented. This project brings together scientific partners and water management authorities from both banks of the Miño River to develop common tools for the coordinated implementation of the Water Framework Directive in the estuary. The main objective is to establish homogeneous scientific criteria, valid for both Spain and Portugal, to allow the typification, referencing, and classification of the ecological status of transitional water bodies in southern Galicia and northern Portugal, as well as the transfer of results to competent public institutions, local social agents, and society in general, with the aim of supporting WFD implementation by establishing a framework for the effective protection of transitional waters.
Attendance at the seminar will be free, on a first-come, first-served basis, with registration via the web at: http://www.cetmar.org/seminarios/Team-Minho/ (Registration deadline: 10/01/2013 at 13:00h).
