ECIMAT in the Aquaexcel Network

To increase the visibility of the activities carried out by marine researchers at the University of Vigo and the services that ECIMAT provides to the entire marine research community, ECIMAT has joined the infrastructure network of the European AQUAEXCEL project.

AQUAEXCEL provides the aquaculture research community with a platform of cutting-edge research infrastructures integrated at the European level. The platform encompasses a wide range of production systems, including recirculation, open circuits, hatcheries, cages, and on-land ponds. Research is conducted on various species such as sea bass, gilthead seabream, salmon, cod, trout, carp, turbot, sole, hake, common carp, and others. It represents freshwater, marine, cold, and temperate environments, as well as facilities at small, medium, and industrial scales.

The main objectives are:

-Provide access to cutting-edge aquaculture research facilities for research teams that would otherwise not have access to them.
-Coordinate the main aquaculture research infrastructures in Europe, laying the groundwork for future joint projects.
-Create an online database of the main aquaculture research infrastructures, facilities, and services.
Harmonize and standardize resources among partners, primarily—but not exclusively—for experimental methods developed at each facility.
Knowledge transfer activities, such as training young technicians and researchers in the latest advances in aquaculture research.
