During the 2011/12 academic year, students from Alborada School, under the guidance of Professor Alberto García, carried out a research program at the high school level thanks to the collaboration and provision of facilities by ECIMAT (the outreach classroom and dock). Through this project, the students studied marine ecological succession, comparing results from Toralla Island and Bouzas Port, as well as the biodiversity of both locations, identifying bioindicators and assessing the potential exploitation of certain species.
The study was conducted by deploying ecological succession collectors for six months at both sites, which were sampled and analyzed monthly. The results of this work were presented at the school and, if accepted, will also be showcased at science fairs such as Galiciencia, Exporecerca, and others.
