Between October 27 and 29, 2011, the IV Ibero‑American Forum on Marine Resources and Aquaculture (FIRMA) was held in Viana do Castelo, Portugal. The event brought together professionals and researchers to analyze the state of living marine resources and aquaculture in different Ibero‑American countries, emphasizing sustainable and efficient exploitation of fisheries and aquaculture. It was organized by the Instituto Politécnico de Viana do Castelo (IPVC) together with the Centro Interdisciplinar de Investigação Marinha e Ambiental, and included a wide programme of conferences and activities aimed at fostering cooperation and debate on marine and aquaculture resource management.
