VII Course on Pathological Diagnosis in Fish

Between October 25 and 28, 2011, the Practical Module of the VII Course on Pathological Diagnosis in Fish was held at the headquarters of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans in Barcelona. This course, organized by the Fish Pathological Diagnosis Service of the UAB, the Marine Science Station of Toralla, and Skretting España, was carried out with the collaboration of the R&D&I Reference Network in Aquaculture of the Generalitat of Catalonia and the Institut d’Estudis Catalans through its branch, the Societat Catalana de Biologia.

The course, which brought together more than 65 participants—mostly fish pathologists, with representation from major national aquaculture companies and public aquariums, foreign companies (Italy, Portugal, United Kingdom, China, Greece), and researchers—covered the main methods of diagnostic protocol development, diagnostic tools, and result management in order to improve the quality of health assessments in fish populations.

This was the largest edition held so far and laid the groundwork for future initiatives that could be very interesting in the field of fish pathology studies, starting with the organization of a practical workshop at the Marine Science Station of Toralla during the first semester of 2012.
